Psychotherapy for couples.
A space where both of you can be heard, and where the relationship can become a place of safety and closeness again.
Couples therapy
In long relationships it is easy to fall into patterns that repeat: the same conversations end in the same arguments, closeness retreats, and each of you feels misunderstood in your own way. Working with couples is not about finding who is to blame. It is a space where both of you look at what happens between you.
In the Gestalt approach we pay attention to contact: how you talk, how you listen, what you feel while the other speaks and what stays unsaid. Once a pattern becomes visible, it is easier to change.
What couples come with
- Communication breakdowns and recurring conflicts
- Loss of intimacy and closeness
- Crises and transitions: a new baby, a move, job loss, children leaving home
- Rebuilding trust after a hurt
- Different needs, values and expectations
- Not knowing how to go on
How we work
A first meeting
We meet together. Each of you has space to say how you see the relationship and what you would like to change.
Joint sessions
We work with what happens between you in the room, here and now: how you talk, listen and react. I do not take sides.
Individual sessions if needed
Sometimes it helps for each partner to come alone as well. We always agree on this openly and together.
Your pace
Some couples come for a few sessions, others stay longer. We agree the length of the work around your needs.
Practicalities
You both come
Couples work assumes both partners want to come. If your partner is not ready yet, you can start individually.
In person or online
Sessions take place in Rijeka, Ul. Nikole Tesle 1, or by video call.
Confidentiality
What is said in sessions stays between us, in line with the Code of Ethics of the Croatian Chamber of Psychotherapists.
Common questions
Does our relationship have to be in crisis?
No. Many couples come when they feel they are drifting apart or the same conflicts keep repeating. The earlier you come, the easier it usually is to talk.
Will you take sides?
No. My job is to hear both of you and help you hear each other.
What if we decide to separate?
Sometimes couples work helps partners part with more understanding and less pain, especially when there are children. That is an outcome I respect too.
